Heat Press Time & Temp Guide
Starting temperature, time and pressure ranges for DTF, sublimation, HTV and inkjet transfers.
How it works
This is a lookup guide of common starting ranges used by many shops. It is not a substitute for manufacturer documentation or a calibration test on your press.Worked example
DTF often starts near 300°F for 10–15 seconds with medium–firm pressure. Always verify peel (cold vs warm) for your film brand. Before you press a paid order
| Check | Action |
|---|---|
| Press temperature accuracy | Use a probe or strips — dial ≠ platen |
| Garment moisture | Pre-press 2–3 seconds |
| Brand sheet | Override these defaults if they conflict |
Frequently asked questions
Why did my transfer lift after wash?
Common causes: low temperature, short time, weak pressure, or washing before full cure. Re-test with manufacturer settings.
Why did the transfer scorch?
Too hot, too long, or uneven pressure. Drop temperature or time and verify platen contact.
Cold peel vs hot peel?
Follow the film instructions. Peeling early/late is a top cause of incomplete transfers.
Do hats use the same settings as shirts?
Often no — curved platens and thicker blanks change heat delivery. Use hat-specific guidance.
