Image & Print Size

Pixels to Inches Calculator

Convert image pixels to print inches, mm and cm at any DPI.

px
Use width or height — calculate each side separately if needed.
DPI
300 DPI is common for apparel and close-view print.
Convert pixel width and height into print inches at a chosen DPI. Use this when a designer sends a PNG or TIFF and you need to know whether it will print sharp at the size the customer expects.

How it works

Inches = pixels ÷ DPI on each axis.
If the resulting inches are smaller than the ordered print size, the file is under-resolved for that job.

Worked example

A DTF design is 3600 px wide.
Target DPI: 300.
Print width = 3600 ÷ 300 = 12 inches (304.8 mm).

Common DPI targets

Use case Typical DPI Notes
Apparel / DTF close view 300 Best default for shirts and transfers
Large format poster 100–150 Viewed from farther away
Billboard / banner 30–72 Distance viewing only

Frequently asked questions

Is DPI the same as PPI?

For this calculator, yes. Both describe pixels per inch of the printed size.

What DPI should I use for DTF?

Most shops aim for 300 DPI artwork. Confirm with your RIP software and printer profile.

What DPI should I enter?

Use the DPI you will print at (often 300 for apparel/DTF). Do not invent a higher DPI to “make inches look good.”

Why do width and height inches disagree with the mockup?

Usually the mockup is stretched or the file was cropped. Measure the real pixel box for the art that will print.

Can I mix units with centimetres?

Convert cm to inches first with the CM converter, then build or check pixels.
