Shipping Volumetric Weight Calculator

Compare actual vs dimensional weight so print shipments are quoted correctly.

Common US domestic: 139. Some international use 166.
Carriers often bill the greater of actual scale weight and volumetric (dimensional) weight. Print shops lose margin on “free shipping” when light shirts ship in oversized boxes. Measure the packed box, weigh it, and compare.

How it works

Volumetric weight (lb) = (L × W × H in inches) ÷ divisor.
Billable weight = max(actual lb, volumetric lb).

Common US domestic divisor is 139; some international services use 166. Your account contract may differ — confirm with the carrier.

Worked example

18×14×4 in = 1008 in³ ÷ 139 ≈ 7.25 lb volumetric. If actual is 3 lb, billable is 7.25 lb.
