DTF & Shop Cost

Film Pricing by Square Foot (DTF & Vinyl)

Convert design inches to ft², then multiply by your film rate for honest material cost.

If film is bought by the roll but quoted by the design, convert area first — then apply your real dollars per square foot. Skipping this step is how “cheap DTF” quotes erase margin.

Workflow

  1. Measure design width × height (include printed margin you actually consume).
  2. Convert with Square Inches to Square Feet.
  3. Multiply by your film $/ft² inside the DTF Cost Calculator, or plan roll usage with the Vinyl Roll Calculator.
  4. For nested jobs, estimate fill with the Gang Sheet Calculator before you promise a per-design film cost.

Sheet share vs art area

For single designs, art area + waste % is honest. For gang sheets, bill each design its share of the sheet (or a clear per-sq-in rate). Pick one method and stay consistent so historical quotes remain comparable.

Do not forget non-film costs

Powder, ink, labour and press time still matter. Film area is one line — complete the stack in DTF Cost, then set sell price with Print Pricing.

FAQ

Should I bill exact art area or sheet area?

For single designs, art area + waste %. For gang sheets, bill sheet share or per sq in — be consistent.

Does spacing between designs count?

Yes if it consumes film. Nesting quality changes true $/design.

How often should I update $/ft²?

Whenever roll price or average waste changes — review monthly if volume is high.

Vinyl vs DTF film — same math?

Same area math. Cost stacks differ (weed time, carrier, laminate).
